Can Babies See Ghosts or Angels?

ghost.pngThe apartment we lived in before we moved to our current home was haunted. No doubt about it. It was a duplex and our friends lived on the other side. There were many times that I would be in the apartment and would get a weird feeling like I was being watched, and a few seconds later the temperature would drop and the back of my neck would tingle. This happened many many times.

One night the friends that lived on the other side of the duplex were over in our apartment and we were talking about the weird feelings that we got in the house. We started making fun of the ghost…talking about how it is probably a perverted ghost and how it was probably watching us in the shower and watching us have sex, etc.

My neighbor started making a sexual gesture with her tongue…as if she was licking the ghost…and all of the sudden all four of us opened our eyes wide. I asked everyone else if they felt something strange and they did. Again the temperature dropped and we all got cold chills. It felt like something cold went right through my body.

Anyways we all got scared and stopped talking about the ghost in our building and my friends went back to their side of the duplex for the night.

A few weeks later my neighbor was in her bathroom. She got the weird feeling again and when she tried to exit the bathroom the door would not open. She turned the handle and started pulling, but the door would not open. Next the shampoo bottles flew off of the shelf in the shower and landed in the tub. She got scared, yelled “Stop It!”, and the door opened.

I have always been a believer that there are entities that we can not see that are in our presence at all times. They live with and around us. Some are good and some are bad.

The good spirits look after us or just live with us peacefully. They are happy spirits and they have good intentions. The bad spirits are angry for some reason. They put off an evil aura and sometimes torment the living.

There are many people that believe that young children can see ghosts, angels, and spirits. The theory is that before a child is born, their spirit exists somewhere on the Other Side along with all of the ghosts and angels. When they are born they have the ability to see and interact with these spirits because they are still very close to the Other Side. As they get older they grow away from the Other Side and live fully in the Earth Realm.

People say that when you see a baby sitting on the floor staring at the ceiling, pointing, and laughing that they are interacting with a spirit. I’ve seen Ace do this many times. I thought it was a bit strange, but always pushed it off as him having an imagination.

In our living room we have a shelf with a bunch of pictures of all of our family members. Here lately when we are holding Ace he will stare at one specific picture out of all 20 pictures. He will smile, point, and sometimes laugh. This has happened on many occasions, and he always is drawn to this one specific picture.

This one specific picture is of my wife’s uncle. He died many years ago from cancer. He died when my wife was young. I never had a chance to meet him.

Why would Ace pick the one picture of the person that is not alive anymore? Is my wife’s uncle his guardian angel?

If the theory is true and babies can see ghosts and angels, has Ace seen my wife’s uncle? Is he watching over Ace and protecting him? I sure hope so…

Little Drummer Boy

drummer.pngAce has found yet one more way to make noise. I guess talking and screaming is not enough noise to satisfy his quota of decibels per day.

Recently he has been enjoying playing Pat-A-Cake. However, he will not clap his hands. He would much rather beat his hands on his high chair, the table, pretty much whatever is in front of him.

While at Grandma’s house the other night, she gave him an empty tin (like the ones that come full of cookies) and two heavy plastic spoons. Ace just pounded away as his happiness reverberated throughout the house…and my head. 😀

I used to play guitar every day, but rarely play any more. Maybe someday Ace and I will have some jam sessions in the garage. That would be just too cool!

POLL: How Much Do You Spend On Each Of Your Children At Christmas?

Christmas is coming soon. Therefore Christmas shopping is right around the corner. This will be Ace’s first Christmas, and our first Christmas with a kid. I have plenty of questions…

  1. What do I buy him?
  2. Will he like the presents?
  3. How much do I spend on him?
  4. etc, etc…

I’m just curious what everyone else spends on their children, so I’ve created DadThing’s first Poll.

I know it will probably be different for each family…their financial situation, how many children they have, and the age of their children. However, I think it would be very interesting to see what other families do…

7 Random Things

I was tagged by Chuck at D Is For Dad to do the 7 Random Things Meme.

The rules of the game are:

  1. Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
  2. Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself.
  3. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
  4. Let each person know that they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

However, since this is my blog and just about the only place where I get to make the rules I am going to do away with rules 3 and 4. 🙂

Random Thing #1:
When I left home to go to college I took one small bag with a few pairs of clothes, a nightstand, a pillow, and a blanket. Now I own enough stuff to fill up a semi…most of which sits in a closet, cabinet, or drawer. Garage sale anyone?

Random Thing #2:
We own four vehicles…but only two of them run. 🙂 I drive the Dodge Ram, Momma drives an Explorer, the Blazer is the project vehicle, and we own a Mazda Navajo. We sold the Navajo to a friend with an agreement to take monthly payments for a year. It was returned to us with locked up brakes and a busted transmission…six months and only one payment later. I get pissed every time I look at it, so it sits in a friends garage for now.

Random Thing #3:
I played guitar in a band in High School. We were called “The Space Monkeys”. Go ahead…laugh it up. 😀 We weren’t old enough to get into bars so we played at the local teen centers and even played at a homecoming dance…the only dance I attended in High School. Partying was way more important than girls, but I knew that eventually partying would lead to girls…and it did, but not the types you take home to see Mom. 😀

Random Thing #4:
I just got pulled over for speeding three weeks ago…first ticket ever! I was doing 76 MPH in a 65 MPH zone and it cost me $130 USD. The cop didn’t even use a radar…he used VASCAR. A method of timing me for a specific distance and calculating the speed. Momma asked why I didn’t argue that he calculated the speed wrong. I didn’t argue because his calculation was in my advantage…I was going 80 MPH. 🙂

Random Thing #5:
I used to be an avid skier. I grew up about 10 miles from a small ski resort in Ohio called Mad River Mountain and would ski every Friday and Saturday night throughout the winter. I moved to Colorado where the skiing is awesome…and I went twice in four years.

Random Thing #6:
I grew up out in the country where it was OK to pee outside. Now that I live in the city I still pee outside from time to time, but only when it’s dark and I can find an inconspicuous spot to stand where the neighbors won’t see and become totally jealous. 🙂

Random Thing #7:
It was very hard to write this post. I am not a random person. I like things planned out and usually have Plan B and Plan C in mind. It keeps things from getting out of control, but can be very boring to others…probably almost as boring as this post was to you. 😀

Ta Da! Seven random things about me!

Getting Ready For Winter

FirewoodAfter recovering from Halloween I have decided that it is time to get ready for winter!  Many people do not like Winter, but I do!  I would much rather be cold than be hot.  When you are hot there is no escaping it.  In the Winter you can always put on more clothes to keep warm. 🙂

Any other year I would stock up on firewood, sweep the chimney, clean out the shed, service the lawn mower, rake the yard, put up all of the patio furniture, clean up the flower beds, clean out the gutters, get out the snow shovel, buy some rock salt for the driveway and sidewalks, and sit back and wait for the snow!

Is there anything else I need to do because I am a Dad now?  I mean, almost every other thing in my life has changed ever so slightly since Ace was born.

This summer was tough on me because I am an outdoors person, and I had to sit inside with Ace on the weekends when Momma was working.  Instead of mowing in the morning I had to wait until the evening.  Instead of sitting outside on the deck with the dog I sat in the couch with the dog and Ace.  There were tons of weeds in the flower beds because I just didn’t have time to pull them.  Things just didn’t get done around he house like they used to.

How will things be this Winter?  There is not a lot to do outside in the Winter other than shoveling snow, spreading salt, carrying firewood.  However last winter I spent a lot of time working in the house.  Our basement was considered a “finished” basement, but was far from what we considered finished.  So I spent a lot of time tearing down the paneling, the ceiling, patching the cement walls, peeling up the tile on the floors.  I pretty much demolished the basement last year.  This Winter my goal is to rebuild it…but will I have time?  Been doing some research about water powered backup sump pumps, and considering installing one.  Having a water powered sump pump can help avoid flooding of the basement when there is no power to run the electric one.  I also demolished the upstairs bathroom a few weeks ago…will it get finished?

Either way, the basement and bathroom are not going anywhere.  They will still be there next Winter.  I’m just going to enjoy Ace’s first Winter and do my best to make sure that he does too!  If I have some spare time…maybe, just maybe, some progress will be made on the basement and bathroom. 😉
