Momma’s Going To Kill Me

So, I’m pretty sure Momma is going to kill me! Why? Because, I have a weakness for FREE stuff. Especially free stuff with wheels and an engine. :D

In the past year I have acquired an 87 Chevy Blazer, a 77 Honda motorcycle, and 4 old push mowers that I didn’t pay a penny for. The free “junk” is piling up behind our shed at amazing rates! (If I don’t stop bringing home so called “junk”..I may just be found mangled in the “junk pile” behind our shed. )

Guess what…none of the free “junk” ran when I got them. (and most of them still don’t…but they will).

My most recent score was a 1970’s something model John Deere 56 riding lawn mower…yes…for FREE! I found it on Craigslist and was all excited! I am tired of push mowing our yard. I knew it didn’t run, but I know that almost anything can be fixed. I was really looking forward to kicking back, with no shirt, catching some rays, with a beer in one hand, and the steering wheel in the other as grass clipping flew all over the place. :D

So I picked it up and brought it home, but guess what…not only did it not run, but it had no mowing deck. That means no blades. That means it is not mowing crap :(

Momma asked, “What the hell are you going to do with it if you can’t mow with it?”

Well, a few weekends ago I managed to get it started and actually move under it’s own power. Amazing huh? While most people would have taken this old worthless pile of junk to the dump for a proper burial, I found a good use.

Dad and Ace Riding On The Mower

Quit snickering at my oh so cool camo hat and good jeans!

Now I just look forward to kicking back, with no shirt, catching some rays, with Ace in one hand, and the steering wheel in the other as we zoom around the backyard dodging the land mines and annoying the neighbors with the rumble of a 6 horsepower engine running beneath our seat!

Screw mowing…let’s just ride!

By the way…I just realized that if I do things right, you can click on the picture and actually comment on the picture alone. Expect all pictures on DadThing to be like this for now on. :D

Okay so why didn’t someone warn me ten years ago that you were such white trash sometimes!!! You people should see the junkyard that he is accumulating in my yard….I think if he brings anything else home we are gonna need a permit and a higher fence!!! Love you Jelly….most of the time!

Here in Minnesota, there is a radio talk show host who does a show called “Garage Logic.”

He developed a “48 hour rule”. Which basically states that when a man buys/acquires new cylinders and gets them in the garage. The Mrs has 48 hours to notice them or the hubby can say “That thing, we’ve had it for years!”

Thought that might help in the future. You can check out the rule here…http://www.am1500.com/gl/lexicon.shtml

Good luck. Its sometimes a lot easier to beg for forgiveness then to ask for permission.

Now that looks like fun! And to think I spent a fortune on a riding mower WITH a deck for my son to ride around the yard on with me! Mama doesn’t like him out there when the blades are turning (and I agree with her), but we have fun taking a few laps before and after a mow.

That is awesome! Change out the gearing in it and make a John Deere racing mower.

BTW, love the pants, I’ve got two just like them.

The best things in life are free!
My kid digs just riding on a tractor that moves, even if that is all it does.

You need to find some free jeans! Ones with knees in them.

I have to say, if I were a kid, and had my pick of ‘daddy bloggers’ for a dad, I’d go live with you lot!

White trash rulez!

;0)

Hehe, so somehow taking Ace out for a ride on the mower is a better way of taking in rays than just hanging out? Hmmmm….

With your vehicle collecting gene, putting that training vehicle for Ace is sure to pay off!

Like OhCaptain, here in MN I have a friend here who’s both the toughest boss and the softest touch you could ever find combined in one person.

He’s always accepting payment for old debt in vehicles of many kinds. Most years he even bumps up against the state limit for how many vehicles you can have before needs a car selling license.

Very cool to be able to fix up broken and unwanted machines, cars and mowers. My wife would kill me if I brought them home!

From one freebie lover to another….check out freecycle.org. You will be AMAZED at the free stuff you can get from there as long as you are willing to go pick it up!!! You will LOVE it! Sorry Momma!!

@Momma: Don’t act like you didn’t know… :D I’ll get to work on tha permit and fence thing. I got a few more FREE things in the works… :D Love ya!

@OhCaptain: The 48 hour rule…I like it! I’ll add that to my arsenal of defenses. :D

@FrugalDad: You bet! Ace is going to be a motor lovin’ fool! He sat on a motorcycle last weekend and I thought his cheeks were going to rip due to the big smile! :D

@pete: Oh yeah! You ever seen those racing mowers? Those things are fast! and they go over jumps! (Gotta be hard on the rear end with no suspension) :D

@MileHighDad: I agree. One mans junk is my treasure. :D

@Momo: What’s wrong with my jeans? … but that is a good idea…FREE jeans here I come!

@XBox: Awwww. :) Well, if you ever come to OH look me up and I’ll let you take a few laps on the ole’ John Deere. :D

@CableGirl: Oh yeah…anything can be improved with four wheels and an internal combustion engine. :D

@DaveL: I haven’t come close to the limit here in OH yet. (I think the limit is 6). But I may in the near future… :D

@Jeremy: Yup. One of my favorite past times is working on things. As far as your wofe goes…see OhCaptains 48 our rule. :D

@Amber: Thanks! I’ll check out FreeCycle…hehe! Momma will be alright. :D

those jeans…are legen…wait for it…dary!!
