RedBox Wii Games Review

I was approached by smiley360.com to do a review on RedBox.  For those of you who do not know what RedBox is…it is a small kiosk located outside of many retail stores where you can rent movies…and now Wii and XBox 360 games.  smiley360 gave me 5 free promo codes to rent some Wii games.

It’s actually pretty simple.  You browse the selection on the screen, pick your movies/games, and proceed to checkout where you swipe your credit card.  Movies are $1 per day and games are $2 per day.  Not a bad deal at all!

We went to a local RedBox to rent a Wii game.  The first RedBox kiosk we stopped at only had three Wii games available…and they were all checked out.  XBox 360 had more of a selection, but we do not have an XBox.

So, we went to a second location.  This RedBox had 5 or 6 Wii games available.  The first one on the list was Wipeout 2.  Ace is addicted to that show.  We DVR it and he will watch it at least 50 times before the new one comes out the next week.

We rented Wipeout 1 a while back and it was too complicated.  Even I had a hard time playing it.  But we took Wipeout 2 over to Grandma’s house where Ace and his cousin Olivia could give it a go.  They both picked up on the controls rather quickly and played it for a few hours before the Wii remote batteries died.  :)   Otherwise I think they would still be playing.

We all played the Wipeout 2 game and everyone got a kick out of it!  It was so much like the TV show with it’s replays of your wipe outs and even has John Anderson, John Henson, and Jill Wagner as hosts with their funny commentary!

We were going to use all five free promo codes, but since it was my first rental I could only rent one game at a time.  Also the selection was limited (I’m hoping because it is such a new thing to rent Wii games).  So I will have to continue to check back and rent the four other games and post reviews here as well.

smiley360.com also sent me a free game called Go Vacation.  This game is amazing!  We have played it for hours and only touched the surface of the things you can do.

The whole point of the game is that you are on vacation and can roam around the resorts on your own and do the different activities that you find.  The box for the game says there are over 100 different mini games you can play.

Ace just liked hopping on the four wheelers and jet skis and cruising around the island.  We left the game at Grandma’s house one night and the next day Olivia played it for like four hours!!  We took it back home and she was quite upset that she could not continue to play…so, I think her Dad will end up buying it for her.  :)

All in all we had a great time.  We got the family together, made homemade pizzas, and played the Wii into the weeee hours of the night.  Much longer than the kids lasted.  I’m pretty sure the adults enjoyed it as much (if not more) than the kids.  :)

Note: smiley360.com provided me with a free sample game to play as well as five free promo codes to rent games from any RedBox location.  I was not paid to do this review and the opinions expressed are my own.

Where To Start?

It has been a long while since I have posted on this blog! So much has happened since my last post that I have no idea where to start…

How about I start on the morning of Feb 26th. Our family looked something like this…

…and at the end of the day it looked something like this…

Notice a difference?  The addition of a little person, you say?

Her name is Valerie.  Ace’s little sister.  Our new daughter.

I may be partial because 50% of her being came from me, but I think she is the 2nd cutest girl in the world…behind Momma of course.  :)   Take a look!

Valerie In A HatThen a few weeks after Valerie was born Ace turned 4.  Can you believe it?  4 Years old!!

Ace's 4th BirthdayWe did a lot of fun things over the summer, but the biggest thing for Ace was starting school!  To get him ready for Pre-School he started in a pre-pre-school summer program.  He was so excited the first day…

Ace's First Day Of SchoolAnd then in August we took a much needed family vacation to Tennessee where we did all kinds of fun stuff including horse back riding, a helicopter tour, riding go-karts, going to the Dixie Stampede, hiking in the forest, and swimming in the pool…and in the river.

Sabrina and Valerie at Laurel Falls

Jared and Ace In The Swimming Pool

…and that brings us up to date!

Now I can make regular posts on here and bring my little place on the internet back to life.  :)

Sacrifices

I have found that part of being a Dad is learning to accept the fact that you will sacrifice some things…

Just a few examples…

  • walking around the house naked
  • having dirty magazines/movies in the house
  • sleeping in to nurse your hang over
  • drinking enough to get a hang over
  • steaming up the car windows in the back seat of the car (unless you are extremely flexible…and/or short…and can maneuver around the car seats, which I am neither)

… you know… all the things that most young, child-less guys do.  :D

Today, however I had to sacrifice something that I won’t be able to do again.  I missed out on something that I will never be able to see again.  The first glimpse of this…

Ultrasound Picture At 21 Weeks

Ultrasound Picture At 21 Weeks

I had to go out of town for work and couldn’t make the appointment.  :(

We are planning on doing another 3D Ultrasound, and I will not miss that one.  I will take off the whole week if that’s what it takes to guarantee me being there.  :D

The doctor said there is a 95% chance we are having a girl.  Time to start thinking of names, desensitizing myself to pink and purple, buying a shotgun, and memorizing the chorus to this song…. :)

The Pumpkin Patch

Over the weekend we went to the pumpkin patch to get Ace his pumpkin for Halloween!  Last year we went to Circle S Farms, but this year we decided to go somewhere closer to home…Pigeon Roost Farms.

Over the weekend we had our Indian Summer.  It was a blistering 90+ degrees in October!  Take a sick bald man, a pregnant woman, and a three year old out to the farm and into the sun with about 999 strangers and all of their running and screaming kids, and what do you get?  Three miserable people just trying to find a good pumpkin and get the hell out of there.  :D

It would have been great if Ace was about 5 or 6, but the activities were not geared for kids his age. About the only thing safe for him to do was look at the animals, so that is what we did…

After checking out the animals we did make our way through the soybean field maze…

And by then we were hot, tired, cranky, hungry, and pooped…

We managed to pick out some pumpkins before heading out to the truck and calling it a day….

Next disaster?  Carving these bad boys…  :D

Off The Beaten Path

Ace and I like to get out of the house on the weekend. Momma doesn’t mind because she gets to sleep in. :)

Today we decided to go on a little nature walk.  We went to Three Creeks Park.  If you are friends with me on FaceBook (add me if not) you have probably seen the pictures from our previous visits, but this time we came in from a different entrance that we found last weekend on accident.

When we first walked in we were greeted by this gorgeous pond surrounded by trees.  The leaves are starting to change color, which made it even more inviting…

Three Creeks Park is spider webbed with walking trails…mostly paved, and some hidden gems…the dirt trails.  Ace and I prefer to rough it and take the paths less traveled…

Getting off of the beaten path enables us to see things that most people who are zooming by on their bicycles, or running with their IPods, completely miss out on.  Like the “Volcano Tree” as Ace called it…

And a giant patch of red berries which caught Ace’s eye…

After walking probably a mile back the curvy trail we found the highlight of Ace’s day…a small trail that led down to a bed of river rocks in the middle of the creek.

We spent probably 20 minutes there while Ace worked on his pitching arm by throwing the rocks into the creek.  Yes, he is a lefty… :)

And after his arm was tired from throwing and mine was tired from holding the camera we made our way back on down the trail.

It started off kinda chilly in the morning, but after all of this walking and throwing we had worked up a sweat.  Time to strip off some layers…

One of the most exciting parts of exploring these trails is not knowing where they lead.  I know that some of these trails make their way across the better parts of the East side of town, but luckily this one dumped us out about 300 feet from the truck.

We were both glad, because Momma had just texted us to let us know that lunch was about ready, and we had both worked up quite an appetite…  :D
